SEASON FINALE!! | The Time Turner and the Great Escape in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Tea Leaves S3 E8)

Thank you everybody for joining me today. It is of course my greatest pleasure to be recording with you today. It is our season finale for season three. I am so excited. This is episode 338, and this is also season three, episode eight, our season finale for the Prisoner of Ascoma. Welcome back to Tea Leaves. This is our version of the Hair Power TV show. We are going through each and every episode, writing every single scene. If this is your first episode with us, first of all, welcome. And I should also mention that there are a whole back catalog of episodes for you to listen to leading up to this one. You can do it in time turner fashion where you listen to this episode and then go back and listen. But I would recommend at least a few episodes of context because though this is similar to the books and the films, it is important to have that context because there are a few changes we made. Of course, this is our version of the TV show. We aren't following no rules here. So definitely make sure you get that before we start. Of course, for you returning members, this is such an exciting moment. There's a lot to get through. So it likely won't be as long as previous episodes because this is only one episode, but this is going to be a very dense uh episode eight, that's for sure. So definitely stick around for the whole thing because there's a lot of cool stuff coming your way. Quick recap and Harry in the hospital wing

So, of course, we will begin with a quick recap of last episode. That was episode 337, season six and seven. Uh sorry, uh season three, episode six and seven. So a good chunk happened here, so we'll kind of bubble blast through it. So we began episode six with Harry and Lupin's Patronus lessons. We then hit Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw. Harry cast his Patronus, but it turns out it wasn't a real Dementor, but still he did it. He was very proud of himself. Uh we had uh series Black broken, we had kind of that modified chase scene, which was which is pretty cool. We got a full look at Black's gaunt eyes for the first time, which is really exciting. After that, Harry and Ron went down for tea with Hagrid, who scolded them about being mean to Hermione, because of course Scabbers went missing, and everyone's, you know, it's uh Ron is not happy because he thinks Crookshanks did it, so he blames Hermione. Uh then we have the whole the the introduction to the Shrieking Shack where Ron and Hermione are standing uh at the Shrieking Shack in Hogsmead looking out at it, and you know, Malfoy pulls up and then Harry starts throwing mud at him, so that'll think happens. He runs back to school. Uh after that we have Buck Beak being sentenced to death, and uh Hermione slaps Draco, and then we have uh the whole storming out of divination. So Hermione really has a good, a good moment there. Uh we end uh episode six with Gryffindor V Slytherin quid each match, and of course Gryffindor wins. It is so exciting, yippee. Episode seven begins with them studying for owls, because unfortunately, I don't want to gloss over their their studies. That is why they're there. So that's really what they're doing. He has his divination owl and her trawling has a real prediction. It's it's her whole, you know, uh tonight after midnight, the servant will return to his master. That that that whole thing. And that is where Harry gets the hint that something is going down tonight. He knows that it is Pettigrew, he thinks that there's something going on. So this is where it all kind of falls apart because uh when they go down to Hagrid's hut for the execution, they can't watch, they go away, and then that's when Ron gets dragged down after chasing scabbabbers down to the shrieking shack, and they have their whole debacle in there. It is it is a really, really cool scene. It ends with Harry at the lake defending Sirius from the cloud of Dementors swirling in. He tries to cast up Artonus, but he just can't do it. He can't find it within himself, he can't dig, and he falls unconscious next next to Sirius, and he goes, it it all it all fades down to black, uh, and just like that, uh the episode is over. So we are now in episode eight, the season finale. So, Harry wakes up in the hospital wing. It's important that we start here because first of all, that's where the chapter starts, but also this is kind of a reset. Last episode was really action-packed. We were going back and forth. There were spells, there were allegiances, I mean, it was just nuts. There was so much going on. It was it was incredible. I mean, so so I want to have just a moment of calm. Maybe there's like I want to have the huge block of chocolate next to Harry to to refuel him after his encounter with with the uh Dementors. Madame Palm Freeze, making sure he's okay, and of course, Hermione and Ron are also there. Ron has his broken leg up in a cast, he is out cold, uh that thing has to heal, so he definitely doesn't have the energy to be uh talking and stuff. So it's it's it's a tough, it's a very heavy air. And it's a few minutes before Herod realizes, kind of gets his bearings, and kind of remembers that Sirius is here, and his initial reaction is, Oh god, Sirius Black. But slowly it's coming back to him. The conversation they had in the streeting shack, the offer that Sirius made. I think that's important. We didn't spend a whole lot of time talking about in the last episode, but I definitely want to mention that one of the most important parts of Harry's relationship with Sirius at this point is the fact that Sirius offered to take Harry in. Harry hates the Dursleys, he hates living with them. It is the worst thing ever for him. So the idea that he could live with magical family is really incredible. And I mean, uh, you know, Harry just kind of realized that this Sirius was his father's closest friend, and he he didn't portray him, you know. That's really important. So, kind of all in a moment, Harry got his father back in a sense, and that's kind of his feeling right now, and that's why he's so panicked when he learns that Sirius is getting held. Uh in the Tallest Tower, he's he's he's getting held for the Dementor's kiss, so it should be administered at any moment. He is panicking. So when he hears, but of course, this is all kind of mulling through his head because he's right now he's listening to Fudge and Snape talking as they're walking down the hall towards the hospital wing. Fudge is saying, like, oh, you know, very brave what you did, Snape. You know, he he caught black, he brought Harry back, he did all those things. Like, what order of Merlin did he offer? I think it was like third class, maybe second if I can manage it. Like he said, like, he's offering Snape honors, he's saying Snape, you did such a good job, great job. Of course, Snape is dis overjoyed. You can hear it in his oily voice. You know, thank you, thank you, Minister. He's really happy to be receiving his honors for capturing his high school bully, basically. So a little uh a little spiteful of Snape, but still, it's it's true. He captured the mass murderer, Sirius Black. Uh, and then they enter the hospital wing. And uh Dumbledore is not far behind, but I want to begin with just Snape and Sirius. Uh, sorry, not that. Uh Snape and Fudge and Harry. I think that's that's a good place to start. So uh Fudge sees that Harry's awake, and he, of course, in his ministry fashion, goes over and claps him on the back and says, Oh, Harry, I'm so glad you're awake. I'm so glad you're here and okay. It was such a you know, quite the quite the tangle you had. Uh, and then he, you know, he's using the uh corporate speak. I'm sure I'm sure you all know what what I'm what what I'm talking about here. Because of course this is a this is a great victory. You know, he's he's in his mind he caught the great murderer, he's the you know, the hero at the ministry, he's he's kind of like this like really uh impressive guy, so he's really riding this high. So obviously the corporate speak is coming out uh now that he is so happy to be a a success in his office. But Harry couldn't be more downcast because in Harry's mind, this is the like this is what's going on. His for a second, for a second, he had a future, and now that future is about to get, I mean, killed, even worse than killed. I think this is where all of our kind of experiences with Dementors is really coming in handy because we've talked about the Dementors case and we've talked about how it's worse than death. And that's what Sirius is destined for. He's destined for something that is worse than death. Harry couldn't bear that. Harry just can't bear the fact that his father's best friend, the innocent man, the man who was about to taste freedom, is now going to be worse than dead. That is just a horrible fate, and Harry can't bear it. So naturally he says, Minister, you have the wrong man. You have the wrong man. I promise you, it was not serious that killed my parents. Of course, Fudge. I mean, this is all gonna contribute to Fudge's um character arcs because he is a condescending kind of an idiot. I mean, he's a good guy, but he just doesn't know what's going on. So he should give Harry a look that's like, hmm, like, oh, okay. Like, such a condescending, annoying look that he gives Harry, and we should all be wagging our fists at him. Um, the actor is escaping me in this very moment, but he's gonna nail it. I uh I've in the few things I I've I've seen of him, he is absolutely gonna nail it. So I'm very much looking forward to this. Snape is also gonna nail it. I mean, Up SUD has this unlock, and I think the you know, pained kind of like satisfaction is kind of what he's what he's feeling in this moment. So I'm definitely looking forward to that. But anyway, Snape is kind of saying, Oh, Minister, you know, I told, I told you Splak had, you know, had his hooks deep in them. You know, it's uh they're clearly very confunded. And Fudge is like, oh, clearly, clearly. So Harry is. I mean, I wanna in this scene I want to get across just how angry Harry is because it's so infuriating. Like, imagine if you knew something that was so, so important and you just could not convince everyone else of it. Like, that's exactly what Harry's going through right now. And that is exactly what Dumbledore's cue is. He walks in the hospital wing, and Fudge is so glad to see Dumbledore. He's looking for his his his congratulations and all that. Snape and Dumbledore exchange a quick glance because they they both know what's actually going on. And of course, Dumbledore sees Harry. He's glad Harry's okay, and this is also kind of when Hermione kind of sidles up because Dumbledore is gonna have to set up our next chapter. So now they're all talking, they're saying, Oh, it's so good. And Harry's is adamant. Hermione's also adamant, they are both teaming up, they're both talking about you know, Black is innocent, we know for sure. In a mistress, we we are not confronted, we're not confronted, we have to go now. And that's when uh Fudge reveals, oh well, no, it's it might even be too late, you know. Like he's he was scheduled for the kiss, he maybe already has it. And that's like, oh my gosh. That's kind of when Harry's you know stomach drops, he kind of loses like that fight. He plops, he sits down, he just he like it's it's it's I can imagine if we were writing this scene in a book, it would be like it's almost like you know, he had gotten the kiss instead. Like that's what he felt. Just this like emptiness uh at the idea that Black had been uh already, you know, had had the kiss. So a really horrible thought. And I want to have this moment because it's kind of the idea of like we don't know how much we miss it until it's gone. You know, Harry hates being with the Dursleys, and for a second he didn't have to do that again, you know. He could have moved out, and he had it in the he had it in the palm of his hand. Sirius is a free man. Sirius is a free man. That was all before Lupin transformed, before it all kind of fell apart. Uh, and now Harry uh just as quickly has lost it. So it's that kind of feeling, and I want to make sure we see just how devastated he is. But luckily, all hope is not gone because afterwards Fudge says, Okay, you know, clearly I can see this is taking a lot out of you. I'm gonna leave you here. You know, Snape, you know, Severus, let's go discuss your order of Merlin. Of course, Snape is overjoyed. He goes, Oh, minister, of course, I'd be I'd I'd be delighted. Fudge and Snape walk out, and now is just Dumbledore and Harry and Hermione left. It is now gonna get real. So this was our little intro. You know, it's pretty calm. It's not not not a lot is happening, but we know what's gonna happen. This, we should feel a clear shift in energy. And I think that's gonna come from Dumbledore's demeanor because he's kind of he's not, I mean, he's not relaxed when Fudge and Snape are there, but he's certainly not, you know, agitated like he is now. Because he knows what's going on. He believes everyone, he's he's got a drift of, you know, what to do here. But in front of Snape and Fudge, he isn't like, you know, he's he's not ready to go. He's not saying, okay, uh, you know, fudge, you know, why don't you make your way out? And I can tell, like, you know, because that's way too obvious. But now, there's like there's like a different look in his eyes. Like, he's it's a there's like an intensity that wasn't there before. That's what we're now that where we are. So we know there's something, there's something going on. There's something happening that hadn't happened before. So Harry and Hermione now see that there is something happening, and Dumbledore is giving them their next instruction. He says, Okay, I believe you. Listen, I believe you. You can save more than one innocent life tonight. And of course, the famous, he goes, Miss Granger, three turns should do it. I'll lock you in. He walks out, he shuts the door, and he locks it. And Harry and Hermione are like, what is happening? Of course, Hermione figures it out pretty quick that he's talking about the time turner. She pulls it out of her robes. Harry's like, what is that? Of course, it's a time turner. We all know it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it's uh shown on screen because it's a very magical, you know, object. Time travel is a very magical thing. So I'm looking forward to seeing how it's gonna be portrayed on the screen. I don't really want like a complete redesign because I think that would kind of take away the spirit of it. There are still, I think the important part is that it's kind of made out of gold, and that it's like there's a there's a that that hourglass in the middle. Those are the things that I'm really looking for. But you know, the I mean it's kind of a watch, you know. Maybe we see these like a time, there is, you know, but it's not like it's not usual times, like maybe the times are reversed, something like that. Like, I don't know, something something creative like that. I think that that would be fun. So looking forward to seeing the time turner in action. But this is where it is going to be in use. Hermione puts it around her neck and then and then gets hairy with it too. She holds it up and goes one, two, three, and then spins it. And I can so clearly hear that happening in the film. Uh, you know, the music starts and then everyone starts you know going back, and it's uh it's a very strange thing. In terms of how this should be done, this is a moment where I mean like, I don't know, it's kind of a tough it's kind of a tough thing. I think it is I like the way they did it in the film enough that I'm okay with it being something like that. So they kind of see like like everyone kind of comes back and it's like everything like everything's happening in reverse, uh, and then eventually it kind of slows down to a stop. And conveniently there's no one there, which just seems very, you know, nice for them. Uh but here's also what I'm wondering is should it happen in in the uh hospital wing or in the broom closet like it happens in the book? And this is kind of what I was wondering, and I mean I already gave it away, but I do think it's a smart idea to have it in the hospital wing because if we think you know, for briefly, uh the end of the episode where uh Dumbledore receives them again and then opens the door, we see them disappear. That's a really important moment. So I think it's important that we open it in the hospital wing. So now the journey begins. That is our first, that is our opening say that's our opening section. They they you know travel back in time, they land in the hospital wing three hours before, and now their their task is laid out in front of them. So let's move on.

The insanity of the time turner

Now the insanity of the time turner is going to ensue. There is a lot of stuff to happen here. So this whole action scene is gonna be pretty similar to the film. I don't I I like how a lot of it is done, but I think well, I should actually what I should say is it's similar to the book. I think the film left some stuff out that we're absolutely gonna include. So let's go from the beginning. Harry and Hermione land in the hospital wing. Harry is so confused. I want to make sure we see that because imagine if someone said, Alright, let's let's go travel back in time, and then you did it, and then you were like looking around. Like, that's kind of the feeling that Harry has here because it's just like so strange. Time travel he thought was impossible. He doesn't know what's going on. Hermione says, We're three hours in the past, Harry, let's go. I mean, it is just it is just crazy. Like that is that that is really an incredible thing that Harry just traveled back in time. So he is dumbfounded, but they have to go. So Harry and her Harry and uh Hermione leave the hospital wing, and she says, Be very careful. You can't like you can't see yourself, you can't do any of that. Because imagine if you walked into the room and saw yourself, you'd think you're going crazy. That's that's kind of the idea. So they are moving throughout the castle, and their first stop is Buckbeak, because that's where they that's wherever they figured out they have to go first. So they're making their way down to Hagrid's hut, and it should be kind of a strange feeling. Like they aren't even like I don't know. I was trying to think about this because I was thinking, wow, there are so many plot holes. Like time travel in any story, there are just so many plot holes, like an incredible amount of plot holes. I was just thinking, like, you know, one of the laws of magic is you can't create something and you can't, you know, you can't completely create and you can't completely destroy. So, what happens if you brought like money back? Like if you had a few galleons in your pocket and you and you time traveled. Did you just bring those back to that time? And then what if you did it again and again and again? Like, are you just making more money? Like, is that how that works? So, anyway, there are a lot of plot holes here that I'm not quite sure how to figure out, but there are certainly things that Heron Hermione know are the rules. The big one is that you can't see yourself, and that's one of the ones that they are following most closely. So they're making their way down through the castle, kind of wondering, like, where are we? They're trying to think, well, where are we? And they figure that they are down at Hagrid's hut already, so they don't have to worry about that. So they're making their way down, they go through the grounds, and they eventually find their way into the woods behind his hut. They can kind of see them, you know, they can they can see themselves and they see they're they're talking and you know, they know what's going on. And soon they realize that a bit Scabbers is about to break out of the milk jug, and this is a really cool detail, and I love how the film does this. When it's done the first time, the rock hits the jug. We don't really know it's a rock, though, like we don't see it fly in, but something breaks, something flies, something something happens, and we see we see the rock fall on the table, and we get a clear shot of it. And then Skyvers runs free. But we don't think twice because why why would we? So after that, they're kind of waiting. Harry and Hermione are waiting in the woods, watching themselves, and Hermione looks down and sees that same rock, and she immediately thinks, okay. She kinda knows what's uh she kind of knows what's what's going on here. So when when the time is right, she picks up the rock and she throws it. And just like that, Skyber's breaks free, uh, they they they find him, and Ron gets him, and thinks, oh my gosh, I thought he was lost forever, so it's such an exciting time. Good job for them. Uh they're they're so happy. But Harani Money then look up and see the executioners coming. They see McNair and they see Fudge. It is a really uh horrible affair. So they realize that the the trio in the hut has to get out of there. So they they they watch themselves go out the back and run up the hill. Now it's just them. The executioners had good buckbeak. So this is where Dumbledore is giving them the assist of the century. Because Dumbledore knows that there might be some time turner shenanigans going on later. So what he does is he stalls for as long as possible. So Harry and Hermione can go and tie Buckbeak. First, they make sure that the executioner sees it, uh, sees, sees the contraption that is holding Buckpeak in place, Buckpeak is is secured, and now Harry and Hermione go up and start untying Buckbeak and they get him free. And this should be intense. I want to bring the intensity here, and they are rushing against the clock, and it's like it's getting you know down to it, and if the last little hair of Buckpeak's tail gets back into the woods, and then the door opens, and all the uh wizards walk out and they are shocked. They made their first success. Good job, Herringy. So now they make their way back into the forest because their next stop, now that it's getting dark, is to find the Womping Willow. So they go through the forest, they go up, you know, through the grounds, and they get a good vantage point on the Womping Willow. This is the point where they can just kind of rest because they don't have to really, you know, rush anywhere after this. So now they're kind of chilling, they're sitting down, Buckbeak is enjoying his freedom, and Heron Hermione are watching. First, they see the dog emerge, grab Ron, drag him under, they hear the crack uh uh of his leg, then they see themselves go under, and then they see Lupin, and then they see Snape after Snape comes. Goes in, Snape picks up the invisibility cloak and looks at it. Harry is so mad that Snape's grubby hands are on it. Snape puts it on and goes under to the drinking shack. And just like that, they're all in. Now they have time to wait. So this is a moment of, you know, respite. They can just kind of chill, think about a plan, think about what to do. This is an important moment for them to talk because Harry, I think this is the first point where Harry should kind of reveal his thoughts about his father and who he thinks he saw across the river or uh the lake. He should be he should confide that in her mind because that should be set up by the time we get there. I want to know what's going on. So they are watching and they are waiting. That is basically where we are right now. But that doesn't last forever because soon they start to see movement, and they realize that their party is emerging once again. They have Snape uh floating like a dummy coming out, uh, led by Sirius, and then we have Ron and Lupin attached to Pettigrew. This is a whole situation. I mean, it is there's there's a whole caravan coming out here. Uh, so it is quite the sight. And soon we see the the cloud shifts, Lupin transforms, and that whole thing happens. But now what what they see is the werewolf is about to attack them. Hermione thinking she is thinking ahead, let me tell you, she howls like a werewolf, Lupin hears, and begins to run right towards them. I think this is a moment in the books where it's like, uh I remember reading this and thinking, oh my gosh, like I was so panicked. I want that panic to come across. So at first they're like, oh thank gosh, we just saved ourselves from that werewolf. And then, you know, the werewolf's coming right right towards them. So they have to think quick and run. They have to get out of there. And this is where we have to chase through the woods, through the forbidden forest. Buckbeak is gonna come in clutch here because eventually uh they are they're running and they're cornered somehow. The werewolf is bearing down on them, but Buckbeak uh followed them and landed right in front of them, spread his wings, flapped, made some noises, scared the werewolf away. So they are lucky. Uh and Buckbeak saved the day. So now they run to Hagrid's hut. This is a part that was cut from the film, but I definitely want to see it. I think Hagrid's hut at night is important because it kind of shows just how much of a different world this is. Hagrid is off, you know, drinking his heart away, singing the singing to the stars, because he's so happy that Buckbeak was set free. So they know that it's empty. Harry and Mighty and Buckbee go into his hut. Buckbeak finds uh his spot, and they are kind of they have a moment of of of quiet. But it doesn't last for long because soon they see the dementors. They see a cloud of Dementors flying across the sky towards the lake, and Harry knows, uh oh. Something's about to happen. So he knows what's what's going on. He says, Hermione, you have to wait here. Or no, no, did he say no? I think I think he should no, sorry. He says that, but Hermione doesn't listen. I I said that and I confused myself. Like, no, but Hermione doesn't. No, he says, Hermione, you have to stay here. This is I only I can go. But Hermione says, No, I am going. You know, it's it's it's not the kind of thing where she's like, We have to go together. I think she's actually saying like we literally have to, because it occurred to me it could be like a rule of the time turn that like they have to stick together. So one way or another, Hermione says, we are going together. So they agree, fine. We are going together. And they unfortunately have to leave Buckbeek in Hagrid's hut because they can't afford, uh, you know, they can't afford him making noise or anything like that. So they uh leave him in Hagrid's hut and then go off to the lake. They go on one side of the lake, and Harry's wondering. Uh Harry gets a spot pretty close to where his father is going to appear. He says, Hermione, that's where he stands. I I want to get here. I want to be close to him. And he's he's he's watching and waiting, and he sees Sirius. Sirius stumbles down to the lake. He's all beat up, he's scratched, his robes are even more torn than usual. And he sees, and then Sirius stops and sees the Dementor circling the lake. He falls to his knees. It's a it's a terrible sight to see him kind of realize that he is going back to Azkaban, uh, or even worse. And the the Dementor starts circling and sucking out his his his memories, like as they as they do. It is a really horrible thing to watch Sirius collapses. And that's when Harry appears, and Harry tries his very best. He he cast his Patronas, and it works for a little bit, you know, he gets something up, but he just can't hold it. The the the Dementors break through, he just can't withstand them. Uh, but that's Harry, uh, real Harry is watching, and he's waiting for his father. He's waiting, he's waiting. Eventually, he sees Harry give out, and something like clicks in in you know, current Harry's brain. He thinks, Oh my gosh, it's not my father, it's me. It's me. He bursts out of the bush, hermani says, What are you doing? She kind of crashes out at him, but he says, No, I know I know what's going on. He steps up to the rock and he casts the biggest, most beautiful Patronus he ever has. And this is such a cool moment. This is, I mean, of course, absolutely iconic. I mean, absolutely iconic this this moment. I am so looking forward to it. I am hoping that they can capture it, and I we'll see. You know, we'll see what's going on. But the key here is the form that the Patronus takes. Because this should be kind of the first moment that we really see a true Patronus in its full form. Like, what does it what does a Patronus actually do? Like, what does it look like? What does it do? That's what I want to be seeing here. But what I don't want to see is like, you know, the stag kind of form and then just run. Like that is the center of it, but it feels like it should be a little more dramatic. Like it should be a little more bright. I like how they did it in the Deathly Hollows Part 2 in the film, where instead of like actual animals, it is like like these blasts. That's kind of what I what I would prefer here, but kind of a mix. Kind of like a mix of those of those two things, because we absolutely need the stag, but we also absolutely need those like blasts of light. So here's here's what I'm thinking. Harry casts a spell, and then out of his wand, it's like it's not necessarily out of the tip, but like out of him almost. I think that's that should be the key. It's not out of his wand, it's out of him. We see this light kind of burst, and it's it's huge, and it that's what kind of takes the form of the stag. It kind of unfolds. And that initial burst of light kind of is like a wave that knocks all the of the Dementors back. And that's when we see the stag charge across the lake. It's it's a huge, it's it's like it's like an elk, you know, it's this huge elk. Uh I think it's it's a little small in the films. I mean, huge antlers, huge fur, charges across, catches the dementors, and casts them away, and these kind of blasts of light are coming off at all the time. It's this huge, bright, like spectacle. And then past Harry on the bank collapses, so mission complete, and the Dementors are shunned away. Harry is overjoyed. He goes back to Hermione. Hermione thinks that he has just broken the number one rule, but he says, No, I thought I was my father, so we're all good. Stupidest thing ever. I mean, that's crazy. He was like, No, no, don't worry. I didn't know who I was, we're all good. That's kind of a plot hole, but we're gonna move on. So that is their part one complete. But unfortunately, now Snape comes and finds them both, and he puts them on floating stretchers and he brings them up to the castle. Now comes the rescue mission. So they have all the pieces in place and they are ready to go. Harry and Mione rush back to Hagrid's hut because they know that the uh minister is not gonna wait for for the Dementor's kiss. They have to know what's what's going on. They know where Sirius is being kept, he's being kept in a tall. Uh I think it's Flitwick's office, isn't it? And Dumbledore gives them gives them the coordinates of the windows, and that's how they how they realize that it was Buckbeak to begin with. They rush back to Hackard's hut, they open the door, they get Buckbeak, and they fly up through the night to the window where Sirius is being kept. And they got there in time. Sirius is is chained. He is chained up. There's no wand, he doesn't have magic, he is he is helpless, he's waiting for his demise, and we see just how how hopeless he is. But not to fear, Hermione blasts the window open and they rush in, and there he is. They open up his his locks. This is we're gonna gloss over the fact that there are probably so many worse things that they could do to him. They could, you know, I I was imagining Grindelwald uh at the beginning of the uh uh cur well gosh, the second one. Uh the crimes of Grindelwald. I was like, the secrets of no, the crimes of Grindelwald. Uh you know how he's all chained up and he's like immobile and you know they um the door and there's like some there's clearly like a protective bubble, and the German minister says, Oh, you've clearly thrown everything at him. That's kind of what I'm uh going for here. But anyway, sorry, that is absolutely not what's what's the case here. We're just gonna gloss over that fact because well, let's say that like that magic takes a lot of time to set up and they don't have time, and they're just gonna give him the do entrance kiss and call it good. So they cut him at the right time. They unchain him with their 13-year-old magic and load him onto Buckbeak, and this is where they have their final conversation. Uh they should, I think they should all fly down somewhere, because I like how they did it in the film where it's not like they did it in the classroom or on the tower. They all get on Buckbeak and they fly down to some courtyard, you know, some part of Hogwarts that we hadn't seen. Maybe it's like the um the lake, something like that. Not the lake of the horse, but like the lake on the grounds. They they fly down to somewhere nice with the moon and the stars, and they have their last uh conversation. You know, Sirius says, you know, Harry, I'm so sorry we didn't have more time. You know, I'm gonna continue to be on the run, but just know that I am looking out for you, you know, that you know, your your your father and I were as close as close could be, and I'm so so glad that we now have found each other. So Harry is Harry is devastated to be saying goodbye, but he's so glad that he's finally made that connection. Sirius gets on Buckbeak and flies into the distance. And that's that. But their journey isn't over yet because now they have to sprint back. Uh the clock has almost struck midnight, they have to sprint back to the hospital wing. They run up the stairs just in the nick of time as the bell is ringing, as Dumbledore they see at the end of the hall, Dumbledore's closing the door and locking it. He turns around just as they stumble upon him. Out of breath, they have been sprinting, they've on this been on this crazy journey. Dumbledore says, Did you do it? And they say, We did it. Buckbeak and Sirius are flying away as we speak. Dumbledore gives them a little little smile. I I like how they did it in the film where like he like you know kind of is like, Oh, I don't I don't know what you're talking about, and then walks away. It's like that's like kind of funny, but I feel like it should be a little more, you know, on the nose. Like they say, like, was that what we were supposed to do? And then Dumbledore just kind of like like smirks and winks and walks away. Like, that's kind of what I would want. So he unlocks the door for them before they go and they say, Well, was that right? He gives them a little smile, and he closes the door. Just as they see themselves flicker into the past, he closes the door and as promised he locks it, and Harry and Mione go back to their beds, their heads are reeling. And just as this episode began with the hospital wing, this whole saga ends with their going back to sleep.

The end of the year

Though this episode is not quite over. So that ends their journey, and now they can go back home. So they pack up their things, it's the next day, the castle is a buzz because they know what's going on. Snape is furious. Fudge is incredulous. Like, how did this happen? I mean, it is really like the whole castle's a buzz. Snape is so mad he lets slip that Lupin's a werewolf, and Lupin has to resign. So Harry goes to Lupin's office and says, Oh god, Professor, I can't believe you're leaving. You know, this is the first year that I feel like I've had a good defense against the Dark Arts uh professor, and Lupin says, I'm sorry to say, well, Lupin, uh, Snape lets slip that I'm a demand that I am a werewolf. Unfortunately, I can't stay, he says to Harry, and of course Harry's devastated. But Lupin says, Well, as now that I'm no longer a professor, I feel no guilt at all in giving these back. He hands Harry his invisibility cloak and the Marauders map. He says, Good luck, you use this wisely. So that's a very that's a that's a funny button for him. Uh, and Harry walks out, and of course, we will see Lupin soon, so not too worried about that. So they get on the Hogwarts Express and they head home. We are gonna end on the Hogwarts Express. So here's the final few moments, they're all talking. We get uh a tropical bird flies into their compartment with a letter for Harry. It has uh Sirius's signature for Harry to go to Hogwarts, and of course, it also has Pigwiggin. Uh, I think it's important that the uh Pigwigeon is not the one delivering any out uh uh delivering the message because I think uh I want to you know make sure that we know that Sirius is far away. So Pigwigeon should just be kind of maybe flying along or helping because of course he's also very small, so he wouldn't be able to carry a little package that that big. So it's like a big tropical magical bird uh dripping off that that package. And that's kind of where where where we end, where Ron holds up Pigwidge into Crookshanks for inspection. I think that kind of closes the the tension with them. Uh and then Harry can go to Hogsmead. Sirius is far away, so it's a good little wrap-up. Here is the very end. I was thinking we can't, we just can't end there. That's so happy. You know me, I'm not a fan of a happy ending. We zoom out of the Hogwarts Express, but we just keep we just keep zooming out, and eventually it goes by, and we're kind of like a bird. We're flying above. We go somewhere, you know, pretty far away, we go through the forest, we kind of are, and then we kind of come back down to Earth. And we see we don't know who he is, but he looks an awful lot. I'm gonna spoil it, it's Frank. It's Frank the Groundskeeper from the very first episode of the next season. He is sitting in his in his armchair with his with his cup of tea, he's looking out over the riddle house at the very last moment of this whole season, he's looking out and the light flicks on and then we cut to black, and that's it. That's it. That's season three. We just finished season three. What a fantastic episode. I'm so, so happy with that. The Time Turner saga is just such a fantastic story.
